Joseph Sowa draws on his Argentine heritage and diverse influences—from plainchant to American football—to create music rooted in vivid color, rich textures, and singable lyricism. Recent performances include the University of Michigan Saxophone Ensemble at the NASA Region V Conference and the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra. His works have been performed by the American Composers Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, PRISM Quartet, Hub New Music, Collage New Music, and ensembles across North America and Europe. Sowa founded the Wizarding School for Composers, an online program that helps composers build their skills, record their music, and get performed. He has received awards from ASCAP, the American Prize, and the Barlow Endowment and holds a PhD in Music Composition and Theory from Brandeis University.
